Kate Prascher copyPrascher is a songwriter with a haunting, clear sound and vision. Originally from Tennessee, now at home in New York’s Hudson Valley, she is a 4th grade teacher in the Mount Kisco public school system. She is a songwriter with a haunting, clear sound and vision. Her songs say the things that don’t make it into polite conversation. They show our everyday darkness, wade through undercurrents of memory and sketch half-portraits of characters both real and imagined. In her 2024 album “Shake the Dust”, Prascher sings the quiet parts loud and loud parts quietly. She evokes American folk tradition and calls it forward. Expect to hear new songs from a voice that has been described as having an “intangible vintage feel.”
