Sunday, September 14th - NCPR Jazz in the 'Wood

jazzThe Norwood Village Green Concert Series with the help of more than a dozen jazz musicians has extended its season by hosting a jazz festival for the benefit of North Country Public Radio. The festival will take place on the Norwood Village Green on Sunday, September 14 from 4 pm to 7:30 pm.

The lineup includes the Five Dots with Haley Hodge on vocals, John Danis on an electric wind instrument and vocals, the Reverend James Galinski on bass, Ben Richey on drums, and Tim Savage on piano.

The Phoenix Jazz Collective will also perform with Scott LaVine on piano, Sam Bailey on saxophone, Ben Reed on bass, and again Ben Richey on drums.

Paul Meyers will play guitar solos and will also play in combinations with Seungyoung Hong, bass (Director or the Crane School of Music jazz program) and guitarist Benjamin Mambou from Cameroon.

Tentatively scheduled is the Giroux Honors Jazz Combo comprised of Crane’s finest jazz students - tentatively only because it is very early in the school year and its personnel has to be set).

The lineup represents some very elite local players including some of national and international repute.

North Country Public Radio suffered a rescinded cut of $670,000 in federal funding over the next 2 years. These are moneys that were in the federal budget and then were voided.

The series legendary pass the bucket will be in full swing during this event and will be the main component to this fundraiser. Please bring cash or write a check to deposit in the bucket. Checks should be payable to North Country Public Radio. There is no set goal for this fund raiser and it will be up to the audience to make this as impactful as possible.

The Norwood Village Green Series thanks Paul Meyers for suggesting that local musicians should do something to support North Country Public Radio in these trying times, especially since the NCPR has always been supportive of local musicians and live music venues. Over the past 52 years the Norwood Village Green Concert Series and its audiences have also benefitted greatly from NCPR’s programs and its unique regional reach for publicity.

In the event of inclement weather the festival will be held at the Norwood-Norfolk Central School Auditorium on SH 56, 2 miles north of the Village of Norwood.
